Why I started Visible Access Health

I’m Lisa Colagross, and I’ve worked as a sign language interpreter for 35 years in every kind of setting, including medical. Again and again, I’ve seen patients leave the pharmacy counter without really understanding their medication. Sometimes they’re handed a printout in a language that isn’t their own. Sometimes they nod along because there’s a line behind them.

Pharmacists want to help, but the counter is busy and an interpreter isn’t always available for a two-minute conversation.

 A simple idea 

 Give every patient clear, accurate medication instructions they can take home: short ASL videos, plus written instructions in English and Spanish, opened with a QR code on the bag. Pharmacists still counsel patients, and live interpreters are still there for the conversations that need them. Visible Access Health makes sure the everyday instructions are never lost in translation.
